Writing an introduction for business letters can be tedious because it’s the beginning statement of your intended message. The introduction should be short and to the point of the letter’s message. When writing and introduction, remember that you should save the best points of the letter for the body and conclusion and keep the introduction to two to four sentences.

 

Before writing an introduction, it’s always a good idea to do an outline. Normally your business letter will have three to four points made in the body paragraph. Your introduction should either mention these points or give background to the points that will be made. This will allow your body paragraph to be more precise and will grab the reader’s focus. Once your points have been made in the body, your conclusion will be more convincing, so long as the introduction writing made a relevant lead-in to the body.

 

As you are able to see, writing an introduction is extremely important to a business letter. If your introduction is not worded clearly and easily read, your intended recipient will not focus on the rest of your message. This causes your message to be lost and the reader will most likely not fully understand the rest of your business letter.
